Temporary Crowns
- You have just received a temporary restoration that will serve you for a short period of time while your permanent crown is being made. This will protect the tooth and hold the tooth in position so the permanent crown will fit properly.
- Please avoid chewing hard or sticky food on your temporary crown. Temporary crowns are meant to come off with gentle pressure and do so occasionally. In this situation, the temporary crown can be held in place with Fixodentâ„¢ (denture adhesive) until you can return to our office for a new temporary right away. Please do not leave the temporary crown out of your mouth because the teeth will move and the final restoration will not fit. Please follow flossing instructions given at your appointment.
- Because temporary crowns are for a short term solution, the size, shape, and color of the temporary will not match the final restoration.
- Temporary restorations may be sensitive to hot or cold items, pressure, and/or sweets. If you feel the bite is not correctly balanced, please call for appointment for a simple adjustment.
Permanent Crowns
- After the final cementation of your restoration, it may take a few days to get used to your new crown or bridge. As with the temporary, if the bite doesn't feel balanced, or if you have sensitivity for more than a few days, please call us.
- Do not chew hard or sticky foods on the restoration for 24 hours from the time they were cemented. The cement must set up during that time to have optimum strength.
- With proper care, the permanent crown should last for several years. Proper brushing, flossing and regular 6-month (minimal) cleaning are required to help you retain the final restoration. It is important to keep the tooth at the edge of the crown near the gumline clean so it does not decay.
- Be sure to call for an appointment if you have concerns. Often, small problems that develop around the restoration can be found at an early stage and corrected easily, but waiting for a longer time may require re-doing the restoration.
Our Warranty to You:
- For a period of three (3) years from the date of service, we will replace the crown or bridge due to breaking, misfit, or decay at no cost to patient.
- This warranty is null and void if the patient does not maintain their six(6)-month minimal continuing care cleaning appointments with our office.
